The Light Veil, designed for Abby Lighting, reimagines the conventional lighting showroom as an immersive experience centre where light is no longer treated as an object on display, but as the very element that shapes architecture, atmosphere, and emotion.

The project explores a simple yet profound idea: What if light became the architecture itself?

Lighting has the ability to transform how we perceive space. It defines mood, reveals texture, creates depth, and influences movement. Rather than designing a showroom with rows of products, The Light Veil invites visitors to experience lighting in context, allowing them to understand not only what a luminaire looks like, but how it feels within a space.

Designing with the Movement of Light

The concept draws inspiration from the ever-changing nature of light, its flow, shadow, drama, and constant transformation.

This idea is translated through a series of sculptural, curvilinear partitions that weave organically through the studio. Instead of creating rigid rooms or enclosed display zones, these flowing forms dissolve conventional boundaries, allowing one experience to transition effortlessly into the next. Like light itself, the architecture bends, overlaps, expands, and contracts, creating a continuous spatial narrative that unfolds differently from every viewpoint. The result is a journey defined by movement, discovery, and perception.

A Canvas for Illumination

The architecture was intentionally restrained to allow light to become the protagonist. A muted palette of soft greys, blacks, and seamless sculptural surfaces creates a quiet backdrop where illumination performs freely. Crafted using MS fabrication, layered plywood, and Gypsum sheets, the flowing partitions soften the space while amplifying the subtle interplay of highlights and shadows. As visitors move through the experience centre, light continuously transforms these surfaces, revealing new textures, changing perspectives, and creating moments that feel almost cinematic.

An Immersive Sensory Experience

The Light Veil blurs the boundaries between architecture, installation, and sculpture. Throughout the space, illumination reveals form, sculpting shadows and transforming perception as visitors move through each zone. Every transition is carefully choreographed to create a sequence of compression, expansion, anticipation, and discovery. The experience is designed not simply to showcase lighting products, but to immerse visitors in the emotional and atmospheric qualities that light can create. It is a place where architecture is experienced through light, and where light is experienced through architecture.
